Passports to Success Update – September 2016

Passports to Success Highlights

Housing: Never Homeless…Always Hopeful with a Plan- Presented by The Eddie Nash Foundation on Saturday, September 17th  had an amazing turnout of Foster Youth from Orange County and surrounding counties. Most of the youth came from group homes throughout the county as well as some who attended with their CASA’s or caregivers. Youth and their Trusted Adults learned about housing programs and options after leaving foster care & focused on developing a housing plan.  We also enjoyed a presentation about Rising Tide Transitional Housing Program, presented by Lacresia Smith with the Orangewood Foundation.  Many of the youth present express feelings of fear, anxiety and uncertainty when thinking about their future, but by our closing activity, many youth expressed their excitement and feelings of hopefulness. The youth engagement level was PHOENOMENAL!   Each participant walked away from this four hour session with confidence in knowing that with a little research, a strong support system and a PLAN(with a few back-up plans too), they will be okay. The feedback from the trusted adults, and youth alike, included great praise for our facilitators; Trinity Wallace-Ellis and Dr. Greg Manning. We look forward to doing it again next month.

Join us next month on October 15th for Relationships: Tips & Strategies to Beat Bullying, Improve Self-Esteem, Developing Healthy Relationships…it will be a full agenda!  We look forward to seeing you!
